Blog Post 5: Changes to my study program

Hello everyone, today I'm going to talk about some changes I would make in the anthropology curriculum. I feel that all subjects are relevant so I would rather change the way in which teachers organize their subjects. For example, we have a subject called Complex Societies in which the teacher asks for weekly group presentations on readings contained in the syllabus, and in my opinion I find that this method of teaching is not the most appropriate. This subject has a very extensive required bibliography, within which not all are read; this is the reason why each group has to read a certain amount of readings and make a presentation about them, but consequently the contents are not understood in depth. I would like the teacher to do the classes and that we would read a bibliography that is adequate in quantity. So far in that subject I have not learned anything.

As I mentioned, the subjects generally seem to me to be perfect in content, but the academic load of some of these courses are very exhausting.  In one specific subject we had to hand in weekly tests and that was too tiring.

I would also like the university to stop admitting so many students because it has made it clear that the space it has is not enough. Before the pandemic and all that social distancing stuff, we were told that if someone was late for class, they had to sit on the floor because there were no seats left. And now only half of our generation can go to class because there is no space for all of us, and despite that the classrooms seem full to me… I can't imagine having the whole generation in the room.
