Blog Post 6: English Language Challenges

Imagen
Hello everyone, today I'm going to talk about English class.  To begin with, I feel very happy that we are already finishing the subject but sad at the same time. I am happy because it is a weight off my mind in relation to my academic load and because I really learned, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank the professor; and I am sad because I will probably have a different English teacher next semester.  Regarding my experience with this subject, it was very nice, I really enjoyed the classes and especially that the teacher made us participate because I feel that involving students in learning is the best way to learn. Although I always find it very difficult to participate and leave shame behind, especially in English because I just don't handle it very well and I'm afraid of making mistakes, but I accept it as part of the learning process.  I also find that writing blogs, our weekly assignment, is a good learning strategy because it’s an opportunity...

Blog Post 5: Changes to my study program

Hello everyone, today I'm going to talk about some changes I would make in the anthropology curriculum. I feel that all subjects are relevant so I would rather change the way in which teachers organize their subjects. For example, we have a subject called Complex Societies in which the teacher asks for weekly group presentations on readings contained in the syllabus, and in my opinion I find that this method of teaching is not the most appropriate. This subject has a very extensive required bibliography, within which not all are read; this is the reason why each group has to read a certain amount of readings and make a presentation about them, but consequently the contents are not understood in depth. I would like the teacher to do the classes and that we would read a bibliography that is adequate in quantity. So far in that subject I have not learned anything. As I mentioned, the subjects generally seem to me to be perfect in content, but the academic load of some of these cours...

hello everyone  I would like to travel back in time and solve issues with myself. I would give me advice as I feel back then I made small mistakes that have an impact on my life right now, so I would like to travel back in time to remedy those things and tell me that, despite these mistakes, I will learn a lesson and everything will be ok.  I would like to tell my childhood self to study hard because when I grow up it will be harder for me to study. Also I would like to travel back in time, to the time when my mother was still a girl, to work on some issues with her; and the same thing with my father.  I would go back in time to experience historical events because even though some of them were traumatic, I would like to be present and witness all the things that actually occurred… I think that would be a very interesting experience: to see history happening just before my eyes.  I don't know if the future is as appealing to visit as the past, but I would trave...

Blog Post 3: My Dream Job

Imagen
Hello everyone, today I'm going to talk about my dream job.  I’m studying anthropology right now and I don't know if this career is my dream job. Because since childhood I wanted to dedicate myself to different things, not what I am doing now. For example, when I was a little I wanted to be an actress and now I’m studying something totally different from that. Truth is, I still don't know what my dream job is, I hope to find that out in time.  Despite all this, I had to decide and find a career. And I chose a very academic one, so I would like my academic work to be recognized: I would love to write a book and be quoted, or that students would have to read my work for university work and have to critique it afterwards. In my dream job, I would like to have all these things; but there is, also, another important thing about it: I have to like it a lot, it shouldn't be boring and I should not hate it at all.  So, even though I know what I want when I have a job, I st...

Blog Post 2: The Best Holiday

Imagen
Hi everyone! My favorite vacations were this year, in February and the first days of March. I went to the south of Chile with three friends, for two weeks. We were traveling from Puerto Montt to Ranco lake. Our first destination was Cochamó. There we went to Cochamó Valley, it took us five hours walking, it was very exhausting but it also was an unforgettable experience. Up there we bought the most expensive bread of our lives, each bread costed a thousand pesos. After that, we visited Ensenada; there, we spent two days appreciating the Llanquihue lake. It rained a lot those days and we had all our clothes wet. Our third destination was Entre Lagos, more specifically Puyehue. Some people gave us a free ride in their car. There was a time when no cars were passing and we thought we would stay abandoned on the road. After checking in at the campsite, it started raining and we could not cook, so we went to bed starving. The good thing is the rain stopped the next day and we made panc...

Blog Post 1: A country you would like to visit

Imagen
Hi everyone Today I'm going to talk about my favorite country. My favorite country is Italy because it has a beautiful landscape and delicious food that I would like to taste in its place of origin and not in my house. Apart from the food, I like the country for its beaches which seem dreamy. Sunbathing on those beaches sounds like a good plan. The main reason that Italy is my favorite country is for the archaeological material like the Roman Coliseum.  I'm very interested in their history, I even watch historical documentaries from Italy all the time. Some of the ones I saw were from World War II. Another reason why I like this country is because of a movie, which takes place in a small town with beautiful landscapes. It has a very peaceful atmosphere that makes me want to get to know this country. I would also like to visit the Vatican, the city of Venice for a boat ride, and the city of Florence. I would like to visit museums and stroll through the streets in winter.

POST 6: A SUBJECT I ENJOY STUDYING

My favorite subject is “hunter gatherers”. This subject teaches the subsistence system that certain societies had in the past -mainly the first ones in the world- and that some societies still have today. This system consists of subsisting on the resources provided by the environment, and they are called hunter-gatherers because what characterizes them is that they live by hunting and gathering... the productive system developed much later. In this class we have seen the technology they possessed such as lithic instruments, their mobility (they were usually nomadic), rituality and symbolism, and many other topics such as the climatic changes they faced or issues such as social organization. I like this subject because it is interesting to know about prehistory, the life that humans had before learning to domesticate species and reached the system we have toda; the latter is to what I give more importance because without this subject it would be difficult to keep track of the past ...
